Children's Programs

Children at Transfiguration are encouraged to engage in the life of the entire church. They have opportunities to serve as acolytes, read during services, sing in the choir, and participate in outreach projects. Our programs are tailored to your child's age group and designed to build community and nurture faith in every individual. We are honored to accompany you and your family on this journey of faith together.

Formation

Ages 2 & 3 | Wee Wonder

We are excited to welcome your child to our faith formation classes. We consider it an honor and a privilege to work with your child as they grow in knowledge and faith.

Wee Wonder is a Montessori style classroom experience for children 2 years old through 3 years. The Wee Wonder curriculum shares God's love with our youngest children by introducing them to God through song, action rhymes, Bible stores and responsive play.

Pre-K to Grade 5 | Godly Play

The Godly Play is a Montessori style classroom curriculum for 4 year-olds through grade 5. Godly Play follows the pattern of Christian worship and our church seasonal calendar. It teaches children religious language through sacred stories, parables and liturgical action, as well as enhances their spiritual experience through wonder and responsive play.

Grades 4 – 5 | Impact Kids

Kids can make a difference one small action at a time. Fourth & fifth graders are invited to become an Impact Kid. As an Impact Kid our young people are given the opportunity to be ministers of the Gospel. We empower kids to make a real difference in our community, helping the hungry, cheering up isolated seniors, preventing bulling, and more. We will explore complicated issues like hunger, loneliness, and generosity, helping kids grow as disciples of Christ. Impact Kids will meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm  to 7:30pm starting September 7, 2025.

Special Programs

First Informed Communion

It is our hope at Transfiguration that children receive Holy Communion when they show a desire to do so and as they receive and become more curious about the mystery of the table, they are given an opportunity to participate in our First Informed Communion Retreat & Celebration.

Our First Informed Communion Retreat is designed to help children and their parents connect more deeply with the act of sharing in the Eucharist by providing guided instruction about why we do what we do in worship. At the retreat, we tell the story of the Last Supper to help the children connect our sacred meal with Jesus. Clergy teach about the service, Altar Guild members guide children around the Sacristy, and then children create their own communion chalices. Participating children will celebrate their "first informed communion" on November 3, at the 9:00 a.m. Eucharist, with a reception following in the Memorial Garden.

While we offer this experience for baptized children who are at least six years of age or older please consider their readiness. If you have a child, you would like to participate register them by October 8.

Special Note!

Godparents and both parents are invited, but at least one must accompany the registered child on the retreat. Participants are asked to bring a baptismal memento, such as a photo, certificate, candle, or stole, to the retreat. Childcare is available upon request.

Vacation Bible School

We kick off each Summer Season with Vacation Bible School in early June. Our half-day camp-style experience runs from 8:00am till noon. It is theme based and full of energy and enjoyment for  our participants, counselors, and volunteers.  Members of our Youth Ministry Program assist as counselors and volunteers and help the kids fully enjoy themselves. Watch this space for details about this coming year's VBS offering. We usually announce it in late Fall.
