SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:7:00pm | Institution of the Lord’s Supper & Foot Washing\nMaundy Thursday begins the three holiest holy days of the year\, and it features several unique rituals performed at no other time. The service centers on the Last Supper\, when our Lord instituted the Eucharist and when he washed his disciples’ feet. It was a living example of the loving humility he commanded (maundy\, from the Latin for commandment) us to show one another. The service ends by processing the Sacrament to Holy Cross Chapel for an all-night vigil and the dramatic Stripping of the Altar in a darkened church. \nSpecial Note: Bring loaves of bread and/or bottles of wine for Maundy Thursday (April 2 | 7:00pm). The bread is donated to Austin Street Center\, and the wine is uncorked after the Great Vigil.

SUMMARY:The Idol of Politics
DESCRIPTION:Brian Zahnd\,\nAuthor and Sr. Pastor of Word of Life Church\, St. Joseph\, MO \nJesus was political. He advocated for the vulnerable\, condemned injustice\, and opposed empire. For Christians\, faith informs politics. But for many today\, their politics drives their faith\, rather than the other way around\, and political party is more important than church.   \nPastor Zahnd is a pastor\, theologian\, and author of eleven books. After coming to faith in the 1970’s\, he founded Word of Life Church. In the midst of prayer and service\, Zahnd’s faith was publicly transformed by the conviction that Jesus deserved a better church. Today\, Zahnd’s ministry embraces Christianity’s “Great Tradition.” \nFull Evening’s Program\nPlease join us for all or as much of our Wednesdays in Lent as you can: \n5:00pm — Stations of the Cross\n6:00pm — Holy Eucharist\n6:30pm — Lenten Meal\n7:00pm — Speaker\n8:00pm — Compline \nNursery Care will be available by reservation only for Infants- 4 years old from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Please contact Allison Blalock to reserve a spot for your little one on Wednesday Evenings. \nContact\nAllison Blalock

SUMMARY:The Idol of Family
DESCRIPTION:Melody Wilson Shobe\nChief of Staff & Ministry Operations at Forward Movement \n\nOur family is a gift from God\, people with whom we share our lives most intimately. There is virtue in being devoted to our family\, but there is also danger when we confuse our devotion to our families with devotion to the Almighty. How might we be loving our children or our parents in ways that are actually a barrier to loving God more wholeheartedly?   \nThe Rev. Melody Wilson Shobe is an Episcopal priest who has served churches in Rhode Island and Texas.  A graduate of Tufts University and Virginia Theological Seminary\, Melody serves as the Chief of Staff and Ministry Operations at Forward Movement and as Associate for Children and Families at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas. Melody spends her spare time reading\, quilting\, hiking\, playing board games\, and being with her spouse and amazing kids. \nFull Evening’s Program\nPlease join us for all or as much of our Wednesdays in Lent as you can: \n5:00pm — Stations of the Cross\n6:00pm — Holy Eucharist\n6:30pm — Lenten Meal\n7:00pm — Speaker\n8:00pm — Compline \nNursery Care will be available by reservation only for Infants- 4 years old from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Please contact Allison Blalock to reserve a spot for your little one on Wednesday Evenings. \nContact\nAllison Blalock

SUMMARY:The Idol of Technology
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Andrew Van Kirk\nRector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church\, McKinney \nWe are heavily dependent on technology to navigate the world\, a reality that the AI revolution will expand greatly. SUMMARY:The Idol of Busyness
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Dr. Neil G. Thomas\nSenior Pastor of Cathedral of Hope \nWe live in a world that praises exhaustion as a virtue and treats a packed calendar as a sign of worth. We rush from obligation to obligation\, measuring our value by how full our days are and how little we rest. Without noticing\, busyness can become more than a habit; it can become an idol\, quietly demanding our time\, our attention\, and even our souls.  How might God be calling us\, not to do more\, but to be more fully alive\, attentive\, and free?  \nThe Reverend Dr. Neil G. Thomas has served the Church as a leader\, pastor\, and preacher since 1981. In his work in both the United Church of Christ and in Metropolitan Community Churches\, Pastor Neil has led conversations about the intersection of faith\, race\, sexuality\, and gender identity. Today\, Dr. Thomas pastors the world’s largest LGBTQ+ congregation.

SUMMARY:The Idol of Comfort
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Kittredge\nDean Emeritus of Seminary of the Southwest \nThe pursuit of comfort is quintessentially American\, but it may be stunting our spiritual and emotional lives. For eleven years\, she was the Dean of the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin\, where she expanded in the Seminary’s work to prepare the Church’s future leaders. In addition to her scholarly work\, she also serves on The Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees.

SUMMARY:The Idol of Security
DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove\nwriter\, preacher\, professor\, and activist \nWe are obsessed with being safe and secure\, but this has resulted in the mass arming of our society and the erection of boundaries (literal and figurative) between us and our neighbors. How are we making the feeling of safety into a god?   \nMr. Wilson-Hartgrove is a writer\, preacher\, and activist who has worked to continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for more than two decades. He is the founder of School for Conversion\, which builds community across the lines of social division\, and the co-founder of the Rutba House\, which brings Benedictine spirituality to life in hospitality and peacemaking. He also serves as the Assistant Director for Partnerships and Fellowships at Yale’s Center for Public Theology and Public Policy. \nThis is a special bonus class starting the week before Lent begins. At this gathering we will share Eucharist at 6:00pm and enjoy a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Youth of Transfiguration. \nResources and Background: \n\n\n\nThe Moral Moment website\nJonathan Wilson-Hartgove’s website\nBooks & DVDs
