Community and professional activities, emphasizing those areas of your expertise which are particularly relevant to the Vestry’s three principal committees (Mission and Ministry; Budget, Finance and Administration; Building, Grounds and Technology) (300 words max):
I have worked with many clients on branding, messaging, and multi-media projects. I loved working with nonprofits, especially in healthcare. As a video producer, director, and writer for 41 years, my expertise is in storytelling with words and images. I have guided regional and national organizations as principal of Ivey Production Company (1988-2008), providing full-service video production and specializing in medical documentary programs and marketing. I have technical skills (most Adobe products, SEO for social media, video editing) as well as collaborative skills needed in team building. My activities outside of The Fig include many pro-bono video projects for the non-profit Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas (FOIFT); as a volunteer for The First Tee, PGA Tour and LPGA tournaments; frequent volunteer for The North Texas Food Bank; served as a humanitarian aide for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services when migrant boys were temporarily staying at the Dallas Convention Center in April/May 2021.
In addition to your professional expertise described above, what gifts, talents and experience would you bring to the Vestry? (300 words max):
PROJECT MANAGER: A television producer is a project manager to whom no detail is too small. I spent four decades managing information, people, and resources. COLLABORATIVE: No part of network television producing is done alone. I learned to collaborate and develop consensus. I learned how to be a team member and leader. MARKETING AND MESSENGING: During my career, I worked with seasoned fundraising, advertising, and public relations executives. I can help a team choose and deliver effective marketing messages. DEADLINE PRESSURE: I began as a broadcast news on-camera journalist, transitioning to producer, writer, and director. I learned to meet deadlines. I actually love deadlines and do my best work under the pressure of the clock. I directed and produced live television. I learned to keep a cool head when the unexpected happens. HARD AND SOFT SKILLS: I have worked to acquire both technical (hard) and analytical (soft) skills. I have mastered software and mechanical/digital equipment throughout my television career, a high-tech field. And, my small business ownership demanded excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Christy Jump
Christy joined the Fig family in 2005, with husband Keith and “kids” Jessica and Jason. Christy completed The Way, and has taught pre-K and Impact Kids. She helps with VBS, and guiding angels and sheep in holiday pageants. Christy’s taken part in Project Unity, Racial Justice Ministry, Sacred Ground, and Fig events from NOH8 photos to welcoming Bishop Desmond Tutu.
Christy’s work reflects these same priorities. She’s the Civil Litigation Department Head for the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America, and litigates for clients of many faiths who struggle to find the religious freedom our Constitution guarantees to all.

Attorney – Civil Litigation Department Head at the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America
Community and professional activities, emphasizing those areas of your expertise which are particularly relevant to the Vestry’s three principal committees (Mission and Ministry; Budget, Finance and Administration; Building, Grounds and Technology) (300 words max):
• Secretary of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Foundation
• Together We Dine (via the Dallas Bar Association)
• Mentoring circles with student groups, law schools and young lawyer associations
• PT A multi-cultural night chair
• outreach with Center for Constitutional Rights, Jewish Voice for Peace, and many others
In addition to your professional expertise described above, what gifts, talents and experience would you bring to the Vestry? (300 words max):
I have a lot of outreach experience, and work well with many other affinity groups. As president of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association (in 2012) I spearheaded “sister association” joint events with all other minority bar associations, many of which remain as traditions today.
I know my way around most legal documents if we need a preliminary review, and have served on nonprofit boards of directors since 2005. And I enjoy writing and storytelling should we have a need for those roles. I don’t add much to the mathematical side of things, or the active construction needs, but I am glad to roll up my sleeves and get involved in whatever’s needed.
And, I am generally able to work well with a variety of groups and ages, from my own 40+ group down to very young kids.
What drew you to consider Vestry leadership and what excites you about this possibility? (250 words max)
I very much believe in the quiet strength of our parish’s unconditional acceptance of all, without seeing that support as something we do just to show off or talk about doing it. Our family has gotten a lot of benefit from our church family and while I’ve always tried to give back in the bits and pieces as I can when available on the spot, I would like a more defined opportunity to help and contribute. I love the idea of having the chance to help others feel as welcome here as I have, and to help continue that tradition into the future. In addition to worship services, what do you do to form and inspire your faith? (250 words max) In my day job I defend the right to religious freedom in many contexts. I litigate and advocate for Muslim and Jewish inmates to receive religiously compliant meal plans. And I fight for inmates’ rights to prayer materials and the right to services of their choice, as well as the right to wear religious headwear. And working with children always keeps me fresh, and on my feet, both within Impact Kids as well as mentoring through scouts and other local activities. In my job I also protect students targeted on campus for their rellglous beliefs and affillations, those who engage in peaceful protests to support the same, and litigating on behalf of minority religious nonprofit organizations. I also enjoy “Together we dine” and related events, both with our own Racial Justice ministry and in other contexts (like the Dallas Bar Association). I serve as a mentor to young attorneys, law students and high school students and work with the Dallas Women Lawyers Foundation to award grants to other nonprofits. |

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
Transfiguration has a unique position to continue to be an influencer of change in the Diocese of Dallas while showing parishioners that healthy disagreement is acceptable and challenges us all to be better Christians. Transfiguration is the vessel of change.
We as a parish are making a difference, and we must not lose heart. We must continue to take our seat at the table and be the voice for the hurt, unsupported, or unaffirmed.
We are known by our fruits and Transfiguration lives and breathes it.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
The Fig stands out within our diocese because of our long history of total inclusion. We are a strong witness in EDOD of Christ’s love for all, and in small ways, we are moving the needle. I want us to lead other parishes, and the entire diocese, into adopting similar policies of inclusion.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
Yes. We do a poor job of being involved in Diocesan activities outside of Annual Convention. Granted, the Diocese does an even poorer job of inviting such participation, not just from our parish. We can and should influence the direction of EDOD.

Transfiguration:
I have been active at Transfiguration since I arrived in Dallas in 2010. I was a member of Nextgen, and I joined the choir not long after that. I went through The Way in 2011, when I was received once again, and continued as a companion into the way for some years afterwards, serving as a sponsor for baptism and confirmation. In my first year participating in The Way, I became a Eucharistic Visitor. Soon after that, I also joined the lector ministry. I am still a member of the choir, an EV (currently on leave as I prepare for my comprehensive exams as a PhD student), and I currently serve as the head of the lector team. In 2017, I accompanied the Fig Youth on their pilgrimage to Scotland. In addition to these areas of involvement, I have also led a summer bible study class.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
It would be wonderful if Transfiguration could be fully in the Diocese of Dallas again. We are a vibrant church, and I believe the diocese needs us as much as we need it. |
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
I’m not really sure, but I believe if we had local oversight instead of needing to look elsewhere for a bishop who were more in line with the National Church, we would find more ways to be involved in Diocesan life.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
I would like to see our Parish continue to advocate for issues such as marriage, racial, and gender equality within the Diocese of Dallas. I believe it is important for any congregation member to be accepted into any Episcopal Church regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other demographic. I believe it’s equally important for our Parish to advocate for equality within the clergy and priesthood as well. I would like to see other Episcopal Churches in the Diocese of Dallas be viewed as welcoming and accepting as our own Parish.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
I would like to see more collaboration among Transfiguration’s Young Adult group with Young Adult groups at other Episcopal Churches within the Diocese of Dallas. I believe this would help foster a stronger diocesan-wide community of young adults that could become a force to attract more young adults to the Episcopal Church at-large.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
Transfiguration has a lot to model for other parishes in the Diocese. As we continue to seek and serve Christ in all persons, we are strong…we continued to grow during the pandemic and began, and are now completing, a successful capital campaign.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
I would like to see both Transfiguration clergy and laity represented on more Diocesan committees and leadership positions. By being more involved in the Diocesan level, Transfiguration’s gifts can be seen and shared.

Transfiguration does an excellent job in the area of outreach offering support and funds to various groups such as New Friends, New Life, and Genesis Women’s Shelter. Perhaps we could become more involved with Diocesan outreach programs.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
With the election of a new bishop, there is an opportunity for the Diocese to recognize the amazing energy and growth that is happening at Transfiguration. My hope is that the new bishop will be open to developing a strong relationship and will be supportive of Transfiguration. In addition, I would like to see Transfiguration engage with the Diocese in outreach projects.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
Transfiguration should continue to support candidates for Diocesan positions, so that we will have representation in all parts of the Diocese leadership. Clearly, the election of a new bishop is an essential part of Transfiguration’s involvement this year, and an important part of this year’s delegates’ job. I was involved in the last Bishop search, getting to attend the presentations and discussing Transfiguration’s vote. I would like to be part of this year’s decision, by attending meetings, researching our candidates, and discerning who will best lead the diocese into a successful future.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Transfiguration should return to its rightful role as a full diocesan member under the next bishop to better advocate for diverse voices in the church. To do that best, we need to help choose a bishop with a bigger-tent approach under which all will be welcome.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
While the clergy and others maintain our official connections with the diocese, there are some lay ministry initiatives that we could choose to better embrace to build informal links with other parishes and the larger community of Episcopalians.

What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
Daughters of the King’s involvement on a Diocesan level is a strength.
There continues to be a lack of inclusivity at the Diocesan level and we can continue to push for change.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
We could have more involvement in Diocesan events, classes, etc., especially in the area of evangelism.

Personal Vision for the relationship of Transfiguration to the Diocese of Dallas
What do you see as strengths and areas for improvement in this relationship?
Opportunities to participate in dialogue among Episcopalians in the Diocese of Dallas are a strength of our diocese–at the listening session I attended this September, those at our table had differing perspectives and we were able to speak respectfully with each other, even though we did not agree.
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
Transfiguration can continue to clearly state and uphold our mission, to seek and serve Christ in all persons, with participation in certain Diocesan events, such as social events and prayer gatherings, to get to know people from other parishes.

Willingness to remain in the diocese and yet retain our principles and practices – strength on both sides
Participating in events with other churches to share our points of view with each other / build individual relationships – improvement opportunity
Are there areas of Diocesan life in which Transfiguration should be more involved?
Not sure how many opportunities there are currently- we have folks on committees. If there are social events or opportunities similar to the warden’s conference for other laity, those might be ways to remind them we’re still here!
