This Sunday, April 12th, we will celebrate Earth Day at Transfiguration!

IMG_2501 On Saturday, April 11th, the church youth group will plant our 4th community garden. We will plant Roma tomatoes and bell peppers starting at 9 am and everyone is welcome to join us!  The soil is enriched with compost from our compost bin, which includes flowers from our altar that are no longer fresh. The vegetables are usually picked by Ellen and go to the North Texas Food Bank.

This Sunday the congregation is invited to help support the North Texas Food Bank by bringing canned or dried fruit, low sodium canned vegetables, canned tuna or chicken, beans (canned and dry), brown rice, and peanut butter.

Our main hallway will be full of Earth Day exhibits. We know not everyone can plant a vegetable garden of their own, so we will feature many examples of living in harmony with our world. Our exhibitors will discuss:

Collecting food for the North Texas Food Bank

Vegetable gardening in the ground, in raised beds, and in large pots. Vegetables include peas, potatoes, Roma tomatoes, and cucumbers.

Honey bees, hives, and honey

The Greater Dallas Organic Gardening Club will feature knowledge and a plant sale

Solarize Plano will discuss solar roof panels for power

Dallas Interfaith will discuss many ways to save power and water

As Christians we should look to how we can help our planet and all the living creatures that inhabit it and we hope that you will stop by this weekend to learn a little more about Earth Day!

Earth Day continues to evolve. If you have ideas for additional exhibits, contact John Caldwell at either 972.948.4883 or johnrcaldwell@verizon.net. We welcome ideas.
