Christian Formation:
The Saints of Advent: Patient & Brave & True

November 17, 24,
December 1, 8, 15 & 22, 2024 | 10:15–11:00am in Roper Hall

Around the world, Christians prepare for the birth of Christ in all sorts of wonderful ways, and many Advent and Christmas traditions also include special observances of the lives of the saints. Such holy days are deeply embedded in popular cultures and have become entangled with this season’s focus on the Incarnation. In this six-week class, we will learn about several of these saints and reflect on how their observances can prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ at Christmas.
Join us in Roper Hall between services:

  • November 24 – Saintly Archetypes: Scottish Saints
  • December 1 – Saints & Empire: Kamehameha and Emma
  • December 8 – Pop Saints: Nicholas and Lucy
  • December 15 – Saints & Symbols: Guadalupe and Juan Diego
  • December 22 – Saints & Scripture: Thomas

These classes are also available after they happen in the Online Formation area of this site.

St. Nicholas Visits Transfiguration

December 8, 2024, 10:00am – 11:00am on the Labyrinth

Reflect on the themes of Advent through Scripture and music in this gorgeous tradition. Before we hurry to the manger in Bethlehem, let us remember the words of the prophets who foretold of the Savior’s birth. A reception follows. Childcare will be provided at Church of the Ascension. [see address]

Christmas Caroling

Sunday, December 29, 2024 | 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.

We will gather in the Parlor to practice our parts and then disperse around town.
