This summer from July 8th through the 17th, 10 members of our youth group, along with 3 chaperones, will be going on a pilgrimage to Scotland. This is much more than a trip, this is meant to be a formational part of these teenagers’ spiritual growth.

Our director of youth ministries, Colin Hills, has been working hard to make sure that this trip is affordable for everyone through various fundraiser efforts. Look for Rent a Youth, a wall of money, as well as a bake sale happening Sunday mornings between services. The goal is to raise $8000 so every pilgrim can receive assistance in getting to Scotland. We asked Anna Huddleston to help explain why supporting our youth group on this journey is a good idea! If you have any questions or wish to simply donate, please contact Colin  chills@transfiguration.net

Hello I am Anna Huddleston, former youth at the Fig. Going to Scotland on an Episcopal Roots pilgrimage is one of my long time dreams. All the years I’d been at the Fig, I would hear the stories about the youth’s adventures, knowing that one day I’ll get to go. Finally this summer is my turn and I’m very excited. I’m sad that these last few months before we travel I am not physically with the youth in Dallas. We have spent years together on Sundays and during youth group. I wish I could be there with them counting down the days and getting ready for this spiritual journey with my fellow pilgrims. We are all praying for each other and I have phoned in for our planning meetings, so that helps.

Some thing I would like to get out of the pilgrimage is having an amazing spiritual adventure with some of my very close fellow youth. I hope that on my time I’ll find out what God has in store for me, I would like to find who He wants me to be. I’m really looking forward to going to Iona. My mom tells me it’s beautiful, and I can’t wait to see for myself. In Aberdeen, we will go to Saint Andrews where the first American bishop was consecrated and sit in his seat. That will be awesome and inspiring. I only have one concern. I’m a bit afraid of having to try new foods, I’m a picky eater, but that isn’t going to slow me down. Other than that, I’m super duper excited and counting down the days. Thank you to all the church members who have supported us on this experience.
