Hopefully you have been able to join us in our Wednesdays in Lent series, a time each week during Lent where we gather together as a church and explore different aspects of our faith through specific themes. We celebrate the Eucharist at 6:00 pm, eat a soup supper at 6:30 pm, and our program begins at 7:15 pm.

Last Wednesday we looked at the Practice of Eating. Father Casey discussed how all meals posses inherent holiness and how our practice of eating can be a tool for growing closer to Christ. While this was taking place, our children got together to make and sample homemade Communion Bread. Every week our Director of Children’s Ministries, Suzanne Finan is connecting the series talk with a hands on activity for our younger members.

For the Practice of Eating, the children and youth divided into teams with a recipe from The Society of Saint John the Evangelist using wheat flour and honey.  Each loaf was stamped with a hand-carved Greek Orthodox bread stamp. The vestry clean-up crew was happy to sample several warm loaves straight from the oven with lots of butter! Besides being a delicious activity, the children learned first hand what joy and fellowship can come from making and breaking bread with friends.

Join us next week as our Lenten Wednesday theme is giving and the children will be doing some quilt making and fabric painting to present a quilt to an outreach charity. Whatever your age, we hope you will join us as we travel through the season of Lent together!

Looking ahead to Palm Sunday, there will be a special interactive program for children and families March 29th from 1-2:30pm. Families are encouraged to join us at 1pm in the gathering space. We will then travel the grounds of Transfiguration and meet some special guests along the way. You will not want to miss this beautiful experience where we explore Holy Week in a child friendly and meaningful way!
