    CHILDREN’S EDUCATION

A comprehensive Christian Education program is provided for children ages two through 6th grade. The curriculum for each age group is designed to provide children not only with knowledge, but also with a sense of belonging and of the love of God. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, contact Gaye Lynn Huddleston at 972-233-1898 ext 241.

Childcare
The under-two group is cared for by trained and loving paid childcare workers at the 5:30 p.m. Saturday service and the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services. By providing consistent workers each week, the children and their adult caretakers can more readily develop relationships, and the children's needs and preferences are well cared for.

sunday school class Sunday School
Offered at 10:15 a.m. on Sundays for children ages two and up. From age two through 1st grade, we use the Hands-On Bible Curriculum from Group Publishing. These materials are fun, exciting, interactive and, as the name suggests, "hands-on." They present biblical stories in an age-appropriate manner and tie them with solid life applications. 2nd through sixth graders use the Living the Good News curriculum from Morehouse Publishing. These materials follow the lectionary readings prescribed by the Book of Common Prayer. Time is given during class each week for prayer, conversation, biblical and historical review and life application. The materials are designed to engage the children and teacher in ways that make learning about our faith challenging and exciting. The first grade class also has a special unit preparing them for First Informed Communion.

Children's Chapel
A separate, age appropriate service is offered during the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services. Children's Chapel is designed for those too old for nursery care, but too young to fully appreciate the entire service in the Nave. Children are seated with their parents in the Nave at the beginning of the service. During the Song of Praise children may follow the Priest and children's cross to their service. In Children's Chapel, the liturgy is similar to that of the Nave service. They sing, pray, and hear the lectionary readings. An age appropriate homily is given by a clergy person. Children return to their parents during the Offertory Hymn in order that they might make their communion or receive a blessing.

bibles for third grade students
Bibles for Third Grade Students
Once a year Bibles are presented to our Third Grade students. The Kim Curtis Pinson Fund provides funding for these Bibles.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is for students in 5th and 6th grades. They meet monthly, during the Christian Formation hour to share a fantastic breakfast, games and music. This event is held in the PES gymnasium.

First Informed Communion
The First Informed Communion ceremony takes place in late fall at the 9:00 a.m. service. Educational preparation for this ceremony comprises six weeks of the 1st grade curriculum. The name of this ceremony derives from that fact that many of the baptized children already receive communion. Parents are encouraged to allow their baptized children to make their communion whenever they ask for it. Photo of the Sunday, November 5, 2006 class

Vacation Bible School
Due to the new building construction, our traditional week-long Vacation Bible School will not be offered this summer (scheduled to resume summer 2009). Instead, bring the whole family out and join us for "Super Summer Sundays"! Fun events and activities will be held one Sunday each month. Families with children are invited to attend the 9 a.m. church service in the Nave (casual dress) and then join the fun! View schedule

A catered picnic lunch will be provided each Sunday ($5/plate). Advanced reservations required. MENU below:
