Children’s Formation
We offer a comprehensive Christian Education program for children ages three through 6th grade. The curriculum for each age group is designed to provide children not only with knowledge, but also with a sense of belonging and of the love of God. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, contact Gaye Lynn Huddleston at 972-233-1898 ext 241.

Childcare
All children under age three are cared for by our trained and loving paid childcare staff. The nursery is available from 8:45 a.m. through the 11:15 a.m. service each Sunday morning. Parents must remain on the Transfiguration campus while their children are in the church nursery.

Christian Formation
Transfiguration’s 2011-12 Sunday School year will have TWO COMPLETE Sunday morning christian formation offerings for children who are age 3 (by September 1, 2011, and completely potty trained) through 6th grade.

Option 1 — Spark Class (Traditional Sunday School)
There will be five traditional classrooms.
• Classes meet from 10:20-11:00 a.m. each Sunday.
• They will be using the Spark curriculum from Augsburg Press.
• Again this year, the children will explore key characters in biblical stories and traditions: Adam & Eve, Moses, Sarah, Peter, John the Baptist, etc and the stories they bring to our faith.
• The story is read from the bible and group activities build around it.
• These classrooms are always open to guests and each lesson is presented, in full, weekly.

Option 2 — Godly Play
There will be three Godly Play classrooms*
• Classes meet from 10:15-11:15 a.m. each Sunday.
• Godly Play is a Montessori based curriculum written by The Rev. Jerome Berryman.
• Each week a storyteller presents a story.
• The Storyteller then asks open-ended questions during a time of wondering.
• The children are invited to choose their “work” in response to the story.

* Godly Play has a limited enrollment. (Parents are asked to enroll their children only if they feel they can commit to regular, weekly attendance, as the nature of the room works best with consistent student presence.) If the Godly Play class you requested is already full, your child will be automatically enrolled in the appropriate Traditional Sunday School class.

To register your child(ren) you must complete the form on the Registration Page.

Children’s Chapel
A separate service offered during the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services. Chapel is designed for those too old for nursery care, but too young to fully appreciate the full service in the Nave. Children accompany their parents to the Nave for the beginning of the worship service, then follow the cross and priest to Children’s Chapel during the Song of Praise. Our Children’s Chapel service, led by a priest, reflects the service in the Nave. Children gather to hear the Gospel, sing, say the Creed and share Prayers of the People. An opportunity for an art response follows. They are escorted back to their parents during the Offertory hymn.

Bibles for Third Grade Students
Once a year Bibles are presented to our Third Grade students. The Kim Curtis Pinson Fund provides funding for these Bibles.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is for students in 5th and 6th grades. They meet monthly, during the Christian Formation hour to share a fantastic breakfast, games and music.

First Informed Communion
In the fall, the first grade class studies a special unit during the formation hour that prepares them for First Informed Communion. The name of this ceremony derives from that fact that many of the baptized children already receive communion. Parents are encouraged to allow their baptized children to make their communion whenever they ask for it.

Vacation Bible School
Each year a theme is presented that invites children to learn more about the Christian faith. This week long morning program, during the summer, is available to children ages PK1-5th grade. It is an exciting program full of music, crafts, bible stories and hands on learning opportunities. View photos from the 2011 “Shake it Up Cafe” VBS program.
