ADULT EDUCATION The mission of the Adult Education program is to provide opportunities for the Holy Spirit to transform adults - through study, prayer and fellowship - to better seek and serve Christ in all persons. Classes are offered Sunday mornings during the school year, Wednesday evenings during the weeks of Lent and at other times during the year. The regular Sunday schedule has classes in Bible, theology, spirituality and other appropriate topics. The classes are taught by members of the Christian Education Team. Review class information and meet the instructors for the Christian Education Classes. Disciple Bible Study Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is an approach to Bible study that emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to Scripture. It results in biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples. All Disciple Bible Study participants will read more than 70 percent of the bible. Each participant makes a commitment to daily preparation and weekly attendance at and full participation in the group study sessions. Disciple aims at transformation, not just information. Disciple calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God's word, and to be changed by God's word. The groups consist of twelve members and a leader and meet weekly for 2 to 2 1/2 hours (2 for youth and 2 1/2 for adults) for a period of 34 weeks. The Catechumenate Program for Adult Confirmation A sacramental commitment to an on-going, intentional spiritual journey in response to one's Baptismal call. When a baby or young child is baptized, the parents and god-parents promise to be responsible for seeing that the child is brought up in the Christian faith and life; they vow to help the child grow into the full stature of Christ. At Confirmation it is the adult's turn to make his or her own promises. The confirmand promises to renounce evil and to renew her or his commitment to Jesus Christ. One's spiritual journey can begin in earnest when that person consciously acts on the Baptismal promises made for him or her when they were infants or young children. It is the beginning, not the end of a lifelong commitment to Christian service. In accordance with the understanding of adult Confirmation, this process includes four components: · Information. · Integration into the Transfiguration community. · Realization that Confirmation is the beginning of intentional spiritual growth, not the end. · Opportunity for a deepened, more mature spiritual life, - a conversion of one's heart. The program is for adults who choose to make a commitment to deepen their faith, spiritual life and involvement in the life of this parish. Long-time Episcopalians who may have been confirmed as youngsters might want to join the class to reaffirm the vows that they made as youth. The meetings will be fun, informative, and rewarding.
