Sacraments
All of the Sacraments are more fully described in the Book of Common Prayer.

Baptism
Holy Baptism is administered in the context of the Sunday Eucharist. Candidates for baptism are infants and young children of members of the parish and older children and adults who desire to make a mature and public commitment to the Christian faith. Each candidate for Holy Baptism is generally sponsored by one or more baptized persons. Classes for parents and available godparents of infants and children precede each baptism date.

For infant or youth baptism, contact Ellen Dingwall at 972-233-1898, ext. 229.
For adult baptism, contact Michael Merriman at 972-233-1898, ext. 237.

Holy Eucharist
Holy Communion is open to all baptized Christians who receive the sacrament in their own churches. At the appointed time, leave your pew with other worshipers to approach the altar rail. THE BREAD. We receive the bread with our right hand stretched in front of us over our left hand, lifting the bread into our mouth. THE WINE. You may gently guide the base of the communion cup to direct it to your lips and gently push it away when you have received the wine. If you do not wish to receive either, cross your arms in front of your chest to signal that you want a blessing instead.

Confirmation
The Episcopal Church urges all its baptized members to make a mature public affirmation of their baptism and to receive God’s blessing in the laying on of hands by the Bishop – an action usually called Confirmation. Many people coming from other Christian traditions will already have been confirmed and for them we provide the action of being received as a confirmed communicant by the bishop. This action of “being confirmed” or received demonstrates that your membership is not merely of this local parish but of the entire Christian Church of which the Bishop is representative. Confirmed people are eligible to serve on the parish governing board, “the Vestry,” to vote in parish elections, and to serve as parish delegates to the conventions of the larger Episcopal Church. For a more detailed description, see The Way under Adult Education.

For adult confirmation or reaffirmation, contact Ellen Dingwall at 972-233-1898, ext. 229 or Michael Merriman, ext. 237.

If you are a young adult in Junior or Senior High, contact Jeb Honeyman, Youth Director at 972-233-1898, ext. 240. For a more detailed description, check out the Transfiguration youth Web site.

Holy Matrimony
The sacrament of Holy Matrimony is offered to couples, one of whom must be a baptized member in good standing of the parish. Marriages are not performed during the season of Lent or Advent. A personal interview with the Rector is necessary before a date is entered on the calendar or other plans may progress for any wedding. In addition to the counsel of the clergy, couples are referred to professional counselors who assist in the appropriate preparation for marriage. A minimum notice of 60 days (90 days for divorced persons) is required to set a wedding date. It is advisable to contact the church six to nine months in advance of your desired wedding date.

Ministry to the Sick
In case of illness, hospitalization, or injury, please notify the parish office as soon as possible. Our visitation teams of clergy and Lay Eucharistic Visitors set a time to visit you and/or bring Holy Communion and Unction (anointing with oil and prayers for healing) as is appropriate. Holy Unction is also offered during the Wednesday and Thursday Eucharist services, at the conclusion of the Saturday Eucharist and by request to a member of the clergy.

Reconciliation of a Penitent (Confession)
This sacrament is available for all who desire it by contacting one of the priests.

Christian Burial
Members of the church are properly buried from the church. The Clergy will also conduct funeral home or graveside services for non-members. A member of the clergy should be contacted as soon as possible after a death has occurred.
