    CHURCH FEATURES AND HISTORY

A Prayer for Our Parish Family - "Save us, O Lord, as a parish, from being inward-looking and backward-looking in the work of the church. Help us to take our eyes off ourselves and turn them on the world around us: to be concerned less with what we have accomplished or where we have failed and more with what remains to be done: that with our vision enlarged and our love rekindled, we may go forward to attempt new and greater things to your glory, in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Church Features
Commonly referred to as The Church on top of the Hill, the Church of the Transfiguration building provides the physical and spiritual focus for this community of prayer, praise and ministry. Designed by the late Ed Beran of Beran and Shelmire architectural firm of Dallas. It's cruciform shape, echoes the Tau Cross parish logo. The central nave, aligned on an east-west axis, has seating for about 360 people. The north and south transepts seat about 60 people each. The Transfiguration triptych is high on the west wall behind a freestanding altar. The organ and choir loft are located at the east end of the nave, above the main entrance and narthex. The gathering space and labyrinth are immediately outside the narthex. The interior brickwork and hard-surfaced floors contribute to the church's magnificent acoustics. Many musical organizations such as the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, the Turtle Creek Chorale, the Women's Chorus of Dallas, the Dallas Guitar Society, the Texas Baroque Ensemble, The Bach Society, and the Texas Boys Choir offer regular concerts in the church.

Church History
The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration began in 1956 with eleven families as a mission in north Dallas. A major flood in 1964 caused the congregation to move to its present location on higher ground at the corner of Hillcrest and Spring Valley. The church's current modern gothic building was completed in June of 1970. Over the years the church has acquired a great variety of religious art which enhances worship, meditation, and prayer. Today, the strong faith of our 2,000+ members has led to our commitment in outreach, evangelism and education.
